Choosing curtains for a Montessori house bed is easier when you separate the decision into three parts: measure the frame correctly, choose the fabric, and decide how much coverage you want. This guide explains the sizing method we use for our handmade house bed curtains.
1. Measure the House Bed Frame
Start by measuring the path the curtain needs to follow over the frame. On our product diagrams, the common calculation is:
(A + B) × 2
- A = the drop from the upper frame down toward the floor
- B = the distance from the center ridge of the house-bed roof to the bed corner
This gives you the approximate curtain length for one side-to-side drape. Because house-bed frames vary, always compare the result with the measuring diagram on the product page before ordering.
2. Use the Bed Size as a Reference
As a practical guide, a smaller house bed around 55.1 in long × 31.4 in wide × 70.86 in high may use approximately 3.8 m, while a twin-size frame around 78.11 in long × 40.15 in wide × 82.67 in high may need approximately 4.5 m.
These are reference examples, not universal sizes. If your frame differs, send us the dimensions and we can help you choose the closest standard length or make a custom size.
3. Check the Curtain Width
Our standard house-bed curtain panels are approximately 130 cm (51 in) wide each. Depending on the product and the look you want, you can use one panel or a pair.
A pair creates fuller coverage and makes it easier to open the bed from the center. A single panel works well when you only want to cover one side or create a lighter decorative drape.
4. Choose Muslin or Linen
Muslin House Bed Curtains
Muslin is 100% cotton and gives a soft, lightweight, airy drape. It works especially well for relaxed Montessori, boho and cozy kids' rooms.
Linen House Bed Curtains
Our linen option is an 80% linen / 20% cotton blend. It has more texture and structure than muslin and works beautifully in Scandinavian, neutral and minimalist interiors.
5. Decide How Much Coverage You Want
Think about how you want the bed to look when the curtains are closed and open. Some families prefer a full pair on both sides for a more enclosed house-bed look, while others use one or two panels mainly as a decorative frame.
The goal is not to make the bed completely sealed. Keep the curtains easy to move and arrange them so the bed remains open and comfortable to access.
6. How the Curtains Attach
The curtains attach directly to the wooden house-bed frame with fabric ties at the top and sides. No drilling or extra hardware is required, and the panels can be removed for washing.
